Environmental responsibility is one of Aperam South America’s pillars. In addition to the activities inside the industrial plant, the Company has been maintaining, since 1993, an Environmental Education Centre – Oikós. This is a 989-hectare area remaining from Atlantic Rainforest, which hosts several freshwater springs and fauna and flora species. At Oikós, various activities are developed for the employees and community of Timóteo and Vale do Aço, meeting the needs of different publics with co-participative teaching and educational projects.
Among Oikós’ objectives, highlight goes to incentives to an upright conduct of the citizens, sustainable and integrated to the environment, as well as to the contribution to protection and conservation of Atlantic Rainforest, including sustainable behaviour and sustainable practices, as a way of maintaining the local biodiversity and improving life quality.
